The California Commnity College Athletic Association (CCCAA) has approved a plan to play sports again.
After cancelling the remainder of the spring sport seasons when the Covid-19 virus hit in March, a return-to-play plan was approved during a Board of Directors meeting June 5th.
According to the CCCAA Covid-19 Working Group, the most important guiding principle for the plan is the health and safety of all involved. "While this guidance is not perfect, it should nonetheless provide opportunity for student-athletes to experience the many benefits of being part of intercollegiate athletics."
Here is a brief summary of the plan, with July 17th being a trigger date:
- If California is in Stage 4-Gradually open larger gathering venues at a pace consistent with public health and safety, such as nightclubs, concert venues, and live audience sports, all spring sports (other than basketball), will begin on September 11th.
- If California is in Stage 3- Phase in higher-risk workplaces at a pace designed to protect public health and safety, beginning with limited personal care and recreational venues, cross country, women's golf, swim/dive, and women's volleyball will begin on September 11th, with all other spring sports beginning on February 13th. Traditional spring sports will begin on April 10th.
- If California is in Stage 2 (current Stage)-Gradually opening some lower risk workplaces with adaptations at a pace designed to protect public health and safety, cross country and women's golf will begin September 11, with fall sports beginning February 5th, and spring sports beginning April 10th.

All scenarios see a reduction of condests to a 70-75% level, with considerations for Regional Championships, held within one week. The plan bans non-traditional seasons and only essential personnel are permitted for practices and competitions, unless Stage Four is reached.
