The Inland Empire Athletic Conference has selected Chaffey College sophomore Ivan Diaz (men’s soccer) and San Bernardino Valley College sophomore Caitlyn Sauceda (women’s soccer) as its athletes of the month for September 2019.
Ivan Diaz (Garey High School) is once again leading the Chaffey Panthers with 9 goals and 3 assists through their first 9 games. Diaz, a member of the All-South Coast Conference team in 2018 has already doubled his goals from last season. Diaz currently leads the IEAC with 10 goals and 23 points.
The Panthers are currently 6-2-1 and sit atop the IEAC and ranked #15 in the state.
“This is a great accomplishment in my soccer career,” states Diaz. “I will continue to push forward to pursue my dreams, whether it’s collegiate or professionally. I also want to continue doing well in my classes and score 20+ goals to set the Chaffey single season scoring record. More important, I’d like to make it to the final four and win state championships.”
San Bernardino Valley College sophomore Caitlyn Sauceda (Cajon High School) has scored 3 goals and 2 assists in the last six games. Two of the goals were game winners and both assists came while playing defender / defensive midfielder.
“This award is a huge honor and means a lot to me knowing how many other amazing athletes we have in this conference,” states Saucedo. “I really want to thank my teammates and coaches for always pushing me to be best I can be on and off the field. A goal I have for myself is to go into every game with a high intensity. I also want to grow and learn to be the best leader I can be for my team. Keeping a balanced lifestyle with school, work and family will allow me to grow. A team goal we have is to win a state championship. We can do it as long as we give it our all and continue to improve every day.”
