IEAC Athletes of the Week 10/16 - 10/20

Chris Valderrama | SBVC
Men's Cross Country

Chris Valderrama, a sophomore from SBVC, has been an integral part of  the resurgence of the men's cross country program. Last week at the IEAC Cross Country Championship meet, Valderrama ran a well executed race by going out conservatively and finishing strong in placing third at 21:47 over the challenging 4 mile course at Morley Field in San Diego behind two of his teammates. Valderrama's effort helped SBVC win its 26th conference title in the last 27 years of competition.

Valderrama, a sophomore from Bloomington High School has made great strides this season in developing as a distance runner for the Wolverines. Valderrama has finished in the top 27 of every meet this season in helping lead SBVC to a current ranking of fourth in So Cal and number five in the latest California state rankings.

Sara Jaquez | SBVC
Women's Cross Country

Sara Jaquez a freshman from Grand Terrace led SBVC to the IEAC team title last Friday at Morley Field in San Diego by running away with the individual crown by over 70 seconds on the 5K course. Jaquez clocked 20:04 which is her second best effort this season. Jaquez leads by example in practice and competitions as a young lady who loves to compete and always puts forth her best effort.

Jaquez has led the Wolverines in every meet this year as the top finisher in all four of SBVC's races. SBVC is currently ranked 9th in Southern California and 11th in the latest state rankings.
