The Inland Empire Athletic Conference proudly announces that John McHenry, Athletic Director of Cerro Coso College, has been awarded the 2024-25 California Community College Athletic Directors Association (CCCADA) Athletic Director of the Year. This annual honor celebrates an individual who exemplifies exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to student-athlete success across the California community college athletic system.
"Being recognized as the CCCADA Athletic Director of the Year is a tremendous honor, as this is a nomination of my peers, so being able to represent the association in a personal and professional way fills me with a sense of accomplishment,” states McHenry. “I am grateful for the award, and it will look nice on the wall, but the real honor is the ability to serve our student athletes and provide them with the opportunity to pursue their dreams. I am consistently focused on being an ambassador to the IEAC and Cerro Coso Community College, and I hope that the college is able to share in part of this recognition in our commitment to continuing to advance Coyote athletics within the 3C2A.”
Cerro Coso Community College has benefited significantly from a recent bond allocation, enabling extensive renovations and new construction within its athletic complex. Scheduled for completion in Spring 2025, these upgrades are a cornerstone of McHenry's vision to expand Cerro Coso's athletic offerings to ten total sports by Fall 2025.
'The facility updates will be a significant complement to our already strong competitive environment,' McHenry added. 'These improvements will provide a truly collegiate experience for our athletes, including state-of-the-art athletic training rooms, enhanced player development spaces, and dedicated team rooms and clubhouses. McHenry also aims to promote top level event management for the community to enjoy, a high level of competitive environment for athletes, and set the gold standard as a host when visiting programs are on campus to compete.
Inland Empire Athletic Conference Commissioner Tony Lipold praised John McHenry, saying, 'John continues to be one of the top athletic directors in the state. His dedication to the Cerro Coso Athletic Program has allowed their student-athletes to achieve excellence both athletically and academically. Congratulations to John on this well-deserved recognition.'"
