IEAC Players of the Week for 2/23 - 2/28

Hope Merrill, Sophomore, Victor Valley College
Merril had an incredible week going 9 of 14 (.643) with 7 RBI’s, 3 triples, 2 doubles, a walk, and a stolen base. A game changer when she’s on the field, Merrill is considered the heart and soul of the team. 

From Coach Santa Cruz: “We wouldn’t be where we are today without her. She carries herself to the highest standard and refuse to settle for anything else. She is electric in every aspect of the game and plays at a 100 all the time. We are honored to call her a RAM!"


Fernanda Cano, Sophomore, Chaffey College
In two games last week (Chaffey wins over Golden West, 4-2, and Bakersfield, 8-5) Cano  was instrumental in helping the Panthers improve to 10-6 overall. In the win over Golden West, Cano hit a pair of 2-run home runs to power Chaffey to the home win.

Two days later, Cano smashed another home run, her 7th of the season, and was 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBI.

On the week, Fernanda went 5-7 with 6 RBI and 3 home runs with a .750 on base average.

Cano is hitting .420 on the season with a .920 slugging percentage to go along with 26 RBI (4th best total in the state). She also sports a .973 fielding percentage.

From Coach Tivey: “Fernanda shows up with a smile every day and works very hard both offensively and defensively to get ready for the next level. She is extremely coachable and is an awesome teammate as well.”
