IEAC Men’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week 10/13 - 10/18

Austin Foster, Freshman, San Bernardino Valley College
Austin has been a pleasant surprise this season for SBVC. Hailing from Beaumont High School, Austin has surprised not only his coaches but also himself with his ability to move up to the collegiate race distances of 4 miles and 8K. This

past weekend at the UCR Highlander 8K (4.97 miles) Austin ran a solid 27:46 to place 73rd out of 159 runners from NCAA D2 and 3 schools as well as junior colleges from Arizona and Nevada. "Austin showed his talents in the season opener with a wicked kick that really showed his speed," said head coach Jim Ratigan. "Austin is a quiet young man with a lot of heart when it comes to racing. Austin is not afraid to get out of his comfort zone and mix it up with the top runners in the race. We look forward to seeing Austin compete for a travel spot for So Cal and State."

Diego Caldera, Freshman, San Bernardino Valley College
Diego has been a key member of our team this fall as a freshman, running as one of our top nine runners in each of his five races. This past Saturday at the UCR Highlander 8K,  Diego clocked a respectable 27:12 to place 56th overall out of 159 runners from NCAA Division 2 and 3 schools as well as junior colleges from California, Nevada and Arizona. "Diego has come on strong the last two races and we expect to see him battle for a top seven spot to represent SBVC at the So Cal and State Championships," said head coach Jim Ratigan. "Diego has a lot of potential and talent. He just needs to tap into it and realize he can be a major contributor to the success of our team at SBVC."
