Kelsie Doll earns Faculty Senate Scholarship

Kelsie Doll, sophomore goalkeeper on Chaffey's conference championship Women's Soccer team, was recently awarded a Chaffey College Faculty Senate scholarship.  We caught up with Kelsie during the quarantine and talked about her time as a Panther and her goals going forward.

Doll, who defended the goal for the Panthers in 2018 and 2019, originally was headed to Cal Poly Pomona with no plan to continue playing soccer after graduating from Los Osos High School.  A call from Coach Grace Cooper changed her course for the better.  "When I was a senior in high school, I broke my left ring and pinkie finger badly. It was very hard to play during scouting season and I told myself I wasn't going to play after this injury because I was done breaking bones.  Then, I got a call from Coach Grace asking if I wanted to come and play for Chaffey and I accepted. It was one of the best choices I made my senior year of high school."

Last season, Kelsie played 11 games for the Panthers earning 11 saves and helped the team to an IEAC Championship.  The highlight of her sophomore season was stopping a penalty kick against Mt SAC.  "I stopped it when it was only 12 yards away," said Doll.  "I heard the Mt. Sac players and parents surprise that I stopped it and I could hear the Chaffey side cheering like crazy. It was an amazing feeling."

Doll has been playing soccer for 13 years beginning with AYSO and then advancing to club where she played at the premier level and was the third ranked goalkeeper in Southern California.

A business administration major at Chaffey, Doll credits much of her success to the faculty and staff of the Business Education department.  Professor Thierry Brusselle encouraged Doll to join the Honors Program to always look for ways to differentiate herself from the pack.  Her eyes are still set on Cal Poly Pomona but the BE faculty have encouraged her to apply to “bigger schools" as well, including UC Berkeley and out-of-state school with superior business programs. Business Education Dean, Robert Frost, told me, "Come back with the top 10 business schools in and out of California.”  "I could not ask for any better instructors who stayed by my side."  Doll plans to continue her education focusing on marketing and accounting with the goal of earning her CPA and real estate licenses.  When this semester concludes she will begin her real estate sales course.

"The advice that I would give to a freshman student-athlete is that it is a transition- be patient it will come to you, stay on top of your homework, and make friends in classes that you are in (it can be very helpful when you need help with homework or need a friend to complain about classes)," Kelsie shared.  "I'm going to miss my team, coaches, friends, and professors at Chaffey; these are long-lasting friendships."

The transition to online courses has been a challenge for the active and committed Doll.  "The faculty and staff in business can vouch for me being there at 7 a.m. I love seeing my friends and my professors because we all have a good time laughing and learning. I cannot remember a time at Chaffey where I did not make friends in my classes."  She has spent this semester working through the rigorous coursework required by the Honors Program and has written over 90 pages so far this semester.  Doll is a two-time Chaffey College scholar-athlete.

In her free time, Kelsie enjoys playing soccer, bowling, and going to the movies.  She can't wait for the stay-at-home order to be lifted so she can enjoy the outdoors and visit with family.  "When school ends, I have about six books I can read over the summer, maybe more."

Panther Athletics congratulates Kelsie on her achievements and we look forward to following her success in the years to come.
